Are you looking for a little more confidence out on the water this summer? The Cape Fear Sail and Power Squadron is holding a safe boating course beginning May 14. This course is unique in that it is one of the few that incorporates hands on learning on the water, in addition to the classroom training.
The course begins with an eight hour certifications class, America’s Boating Course®. Approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the USCG this class satisfies the North Carolina boating safety education requirement.
The next step of the course is local knowledge. Local boaters with years of experience will explain the local waters, including the Intercostal Waterway, Masonboro Inlet, and the Cape Fear River. You’ll learn about local tides, currents, and prevailing weather conditions. You’ll learn about marker placement and how to read markers.
The third segment is a three hour on-the-water training cruise. This experience is invaluable to young boaters and those new to the area. This helps in applying the classroom knowledge to our local waters.
For more information or to enroll in the next course, visit www.capefearboatingcourse.org or email email@example.com.
Atlantic Marine recommends this course for young boaters, new boaters, and those new to this area.

As we continue maintain ever advancing Yamaha Outboard technology, our two Yamaha Master Techs, Brian Smith and Jody Lang, attended Yamaha Helm Master school in Kennesaw, Georgia this winter. Brain and Jody were certified in this new technology as we are beginning to stock and sell more inventory with Yamaha’s all new joy stick control system, Helm Master.
Other areas of preparation for a busy spring included a staff trip to the Grady-White factory. The face to face meetings and interaction with plant staff was invaluable to our team. It was an excellent opportunity for our staff here to meet with their Grady counterparts and discuss issues and solutions. See photos from our trip below.

Last spring we acquired our 29,000 square foot warehouse facility in Wilmington. We spent the summer of 2013 cleaning, updating, and preparing to launch our new winter storage program in this facility. We installed an industrial climate control system to heat and cool the warehouse. We also installed security cameras, an alarm system, and security fence around the building to keep your boat safe.
Last year, our winter storage program sold out! We completely filled all 29,000 square feet. This year, we are taking reservations now for winter storage. One flat fee, based upon the size of your boat, guarantees you space in our winter storage facility November 1st through March 31st. We’ll place your boat in storage when it’s convenient for you any time within this date range. Come in early or leave late for an additional monthly fee.
Customers who reserve their winter storage space will be placed on a preferred call list and will first right of refusal, in the event we offer storm haul out service for an approaching hurricane or wind storm. An additional haul out fee may apply.
Contact us today at firstname.lastname@example.org or (910) 256-9911 for more information about our winter storage program or to book your space now!
The construction site of our new showroom on Oleander Drive at Wrightsville Avenue has been bustling the past few weeks. The main steel has been erected, the roof system is over 50 percent complete, and the sheeting is starting to wrap the exterior walls. The main framing has been installed for the hoist system that will allow us to easily off load boats inside.
We anticipate displaying between twelve and sixteen new boats inside the showroom. Used and brokerage sales will remain at our Keel Street location on Wrightsville Beach, along with some new inventory.
Our general contractor, McKinley Building, estimates a mid-summer completion, and we are looking forward to hosting our grand opening!

As you read this, we’re moving in to the Raleigh Convention Center for the annual Raleigh Convention Center Boat Show held this Thursday through Sunday, February 6th through the 9th. We’ve got an exciting lineup of Grady-White and Chris-Craft boats.
From the Freedom series, Grady-White’s line of dual console boats, we’ll have the 2014 Grady-White 192 Freedom, 2014 Grady-White 205 Freedom, 2014 Grady-White 225 Freedom, 2014 Grady-White 275 Freedom, 2014 Grady-White 335 Freedom. From the Canyon and Fisherman series of center console boats we’ll have the 2014 Grady-White 257 Fisherman and the 2014 Grady-White 306 Canyon. Also, for the first time, we’ll have the all-new 2014 Grady-White 251 Coastal Explorer.
The 251 Coastal Explorer is the first in a new series of boats. The low hull side Coastal Explorer has all the fishing features you’d expect in a Grady, but it is loaded with neat features for those summer days at the island. This boat is completely new and we’re excited to bring it to Wrightsville Beach and the Raleigh Convention Center Boat Show.
Atlantic Marine has been nicknamed by Chris-Craft executives as the “Catalina Kings!” The Catalina series, an outboard center console line, provides the elegant design and superior fit, finish, and selection of materials that set these center console boats apart from the others. In keeping with our nickname, we’ll have the 2014 Chris-Craft 26 Catalina and the 2014 Chris-Craft 29 Catalina on display.
Parking for the boat show is available in the underground parking deck and connects to the convention center via tunnel. Enter the deck on West Lenoir Street between Salisbury and Fayetteville Streets; or, enter 24 West Lenoir Street, Raleigh in your GPS. As you come down the escalators to the exhibit hall floor, you’ll see our Grady-White and Chris-Craft booths to the far right of the hall. Look for the large triangle red, white, and blue Atlantic Marine sign hanging from the ceiling.
Here are the show hours:
Thursday, February 6th: 11:00am – 8:00pm

GREENVILLE, NC: Grady-White is pioneering a whole new category of inshore/offshore

its kind from Grady-White, and is designed to provide a piece of heaven for practicality,

the boat offers performance to match its style. Transformable seats forward and aft go
from bench style to lounge, and make the boat perfect for playing, relaxing, and fun for
socializing. As with every Grady-White, add rods and tackle and you have a fishing boat
that is truly without peer. Packed with so many features, there’s something for everyone in
the family on this boat.

Chris Hanna, a star independent hauler in the hit A&E series “Shipping Wars” was assigned the transport of our new 2014 Chris-Craft 26 Catalina from the plant in Sarasota Florida on Thursday. How cool is that?
Chris Hanna and Robbie Welsh, known as the “hotshot couple” own and operate a full time independent hauling business and often film with the TV series when assigned the most challenging hauls such as the recent transport of a DC-10 aircraft through Miami Florida.
Shipping Wars is a reality TV series on A&E that began airing on January 10, 2012.The show follows six independent carriers who have discovered that fortunes can be made transporting items that traditional carriers either cannot or will not haul. The series also features uShip, the world’s largest online auction house for independent truckers.
In a typical episode, the carriers place bids on two jobs listed on uShip, in a reverse auction format. Each client has the option of awarding the job either to the lowest bidder, or to a higher bidder based on feedback from previous clients. Ties are broken in favor of the carrier with the higher average feedback rating. Winners load their cargo and attempt to deliver it intact by the client’s deadline. Feedback ratings from clients are displayed as the loads are delivered. At the end of the episode, each carrier’s net profit or loss is tallied on-screen, with the expenses (fuel, labor, late-delivery penalties, fines, etc.) subtracted from the bid amount to determine the overall profit or loss. At times, a carrier will arrange to haul one or more additional loads on the same trip, with the extra money figured into his/her tally.
Eddie Smith, owner and CEO of Grady-White Boats, was recently awarded the Rybovich Lifetime Conservation Award, at the Billfish Foundation annual gala in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
The award, named after legendary boat builder and conservationist John Rybovich, is the Billfish Foundation’s highest honor, presented to members of the sportfishing community who have excelled in their contributions to gamefish stewardship and the associated sportfishing and boating industries.
Smith is recognized for his life-long devotion of time and energy toward ocean and fisheries conservation initiatives through his active role in many organizations including the Billfish Foundation, as well as his dedication to designing and building outstanding fiberglass sportfishing boats.
Kris Carroll, president of Grady-White, accepted the award on behalf of Smith. “Eddie wants me to share with you how proud and humbled he is to be chosen to receive this honor,” Carroll said. “In Eddie’s words: ‘The conservation of our fisheries resources for the generations to come is of utmost importance to all of us, and I am happy to have been able to play even a small role in that effort.’”
A crowd of 320 Billfish Foundation members and guests gathered at the event to recognize Smith as well as two other Rybovich Award honorees, Maumus Claverie, Jr., and Captain Ron Hamlin.
Eddie Smith has owned Grady-White Boats since 1968. Under his steady hand the company has been dedicated to building the ultimate outboard powered sportfishing boats.
